Root of V. aphylla develops hairs when contacting neigbouring roots Roots of Voyria aphylla are generally hairless. However, in close contact to roots of neighbouring plants it develops root hairs, so enhancing the contact surface. Interestingly, the mycorrhizal fungus almost exclusively enters the V. aphylla root via this root to root attachments, building a direct hyphal bridge. The root hairs often are the receiving structure. More information on Voyria aphylla here.
